The thesis

AI governance frameworks are multiplying — European Union, United States, China, international standards — without recognising one another. Rather than harmonising, GAIGI builds the instruments that allow these frameworks to understand each other: the work of a neutral trusted third party, which can only be done in Geneva.

Mutual recognition
The Geneva Bridge
A mechanism for the mutual recognition of AI conformity assessments, grounded in Article 6 of the WTO TBT Agreement. It translates rather than harmonises: national authorities retain full sovereignty.

A mapping of functional equivalences across 7 global frameworks — from the EU AI Act to the NIST AI RMF — in 34 sub-categories. Published open source, designed to be verifiable by anyone.

The Institute's independence is non-negotiable: no partnership carries influence over its direction, which rests with the Foundation Board. GAIGI conducts its work without commissions from any single actor and takes care never to depend on a single funder.

GAIGI carries no commercial mandate. Its work serves a mission of general interest, never particular interests.
Chatham House Rule
The dialogues convene regulators, diplomatic missions and industry: remarks are reported, never attributed.
Conflicts of interest
Members declare their interests. Any potential conflict is disclosed and handled under internal rules.
Not for profit
The foundation distributes no profit: its resources are devoted entirely to its mission.

Status, tax exemption and governance
GAIGI, the Geneva AI Governance Institute, is a Swiss-law foundation governed by Articles 80 et seq. of the Swiss Civil Code, entered in the Geneva Commercial Register under number CHE-417.590.552 and placed under the supervision of the competent authority. Its seat is at Rue du Prieuré 31, 1202 Geneva.
Its enduring public-interest purpose is the responsible governance of artificial intelligence and initiatives that strengthen transparency, participation and accountability in digital technology.
GAIGI benefits from tax exemption for its public-benefit activities. For donors liable to tax in Switzerland, contributions to a Swiss institution exempt on account of its public-benefit purpose may be deductible, within the limits and conditions set by the applicable federal and cantonal law — see the canton of Geneva's guidance on applying for tax exemption. Tax treatment depends on each donor's own circumstances and canton; GAIGI issues a donation certificate.
The foundation's assets are irrevocably dedicated to its purpose. Its governance rests on an independent Foundation Board, regular financial control and transparent reporting to its partners and donors. Our team assists you with payment arrangements (bank transfer, Swiss QR-bill).
